New Delhi, Oct 12: Delhi Police has denotified Jantar Mantar as a designated venue for protests and demonstrations and designated three alternative sites for holding such gatherings, according to an official order.
Delhi Police Commissioner Anurag Kumar issued Standing Order No. L&O/48/2026 on October 11, naming Ramlila Ground, Burari Ground and CBD Ground in east Delhi as the new designated venues.
The order states that the Ministry of Home Affairs had constituted a committee to examine alternative venues for citizens to organise protests and demonstrations in place of the existing designated site.
Based on the committee’s recommendations, Jantar Mantar has been denotified as a protest venue, the order said.
The police said detailed and revised standard operating procedures for organising protests and demonstrations at the three newly designated venues would be issued separately.
The order partially modifies an earlier standing order dated April 28, 2022.
The move comes amid heightened security arrangements in the national capital following calls for protests at Jantar Mantar.
