Srinagar, Oct 21: The Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC), University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC), New Delhi, commenced a two-day seminar-cum-workshop on “Artificial Intelligence, Creativity and Content Generation: Opportunities and Challenges of a New Tomorrow” at the Main Campus on Wednesday.
The seminar-cum-workshop aims to explore the growing impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on creativity, digital media and content generation, while examining the emerging opportunities, ethical concerns and challenges associated with the rapidly evolving technology. It also seeks to encourage meaningful discussions on the responsible use of AI in education, media production and creative practices.
Speaking at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, highlighted the growing relevance of Artificial Intelligence in higher education and research. She emphasised the need to embrace technological advancements while preserving human creativity, critical thinking and ethical responsibility.
“AI is reshaping the way knowledge is created, communicated and disseminated. It is important for universities to engage with these emerging technologies and ensure that innovation remains meaningful and responsible,” she said.
Keynote speaker Prof. (Dr.) Parikshat Singh Manhas, Director, CEC, New Delhi, noted the significance of integrating AI into educational communication and multimedia production. He highlighted the potential of emerging technologies to transform content creation, teaching and learning.
Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, in his address, stressed on the need for educational institutions to remain responsive to technological changes and equip students and professionals with the knowledge required in an AI-enabled world.
Shafqat Habib, Senior Producer, EMRC KU, in his remarks, referred to films that have explored AI and its implications for humanity. Drawing attention to cinematic portrayals of AI, he reflected on how films have anticipated debates around human-machine relationships and the ethical dilemmas associated with intelligent systems.
Earlier, Director EMRC KU, Prof. Syeda Afshana, in her welcome address, highlighted the importance of the seminar-cum-workshop in promoting dialogue on the intersection of AI, creativity and multimedia communication. She emphasised the role of educational multimedia centres in exploring innovative content-generation practices and responding to the changing technological landscape.
Annual Report 2026 of EMRC KU and CEC newsletter were also released on the occasion.
The two-day workshop will feature deliberations and interactive sessions on emerging AI tools, creativity, content-generation, and the ethical and professional challenges associated with the use of artificial intelligence.
The event is being attended by Directors of various EMRC Centres across the country, delegates from higher educational institutions, faculty members, research scholars and students of the campus.
The proceedings of the inaugural session were conducted by Ajaz-ul-Haque, and vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Tariq Abdullah, Producers at EMRC KU.
