Srinagar, Oct 6: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Tuesday said the revised Industrial Policy for the Union Territory has reached its final stage and assured that shortcomings and instances of alleged selective treatment under the previous policy would not be repeated.
Choudhary said the policy had been prepared after extensive deliberations by the concerned officers under the leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and would be implemented soon.
He said the government was working to remove existing bottlenecks and ensure that the benefits of the industrial package reach eligible beneficiaries in a fair and transparent manner.
Referring to the Rs 28,400-crore industrial package for Jammu and Kashmir, the Deputy Chief Minister said its utilisation could have been more effective, adding that better implementation would have addressed several concerns raised by industrialists and industry chambers.
The revised policy has been prepared after consultations with stakeholders. Its draft was placed in the public domain for suggestions and comments before a committee constituted by the General Administration Department examined the feedback and held further consultations.
The policy was also reviewed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in September, with directions for a balanced and pragmatic framework focused on investment, local employment, market access, ease of doing business and stronger implementation mechanisms. (KNT)
